Fair Work in Offshore Wind

This report sets out the employment and corporate practice of companies in Scotland's offshore wind sector, including ScotWind project developers. The analysis is built upon interviews with trade union officers and a survey of ScotWind developers and reveals poor employment practice including pay less than the minimum wage, exploitation of migrants workers, and resistance to trade union recognition.

STUC report into complaints upheld in older people’s care homes

Despite extensive international and Scottish literature linking financialised and privatised care with poor outcomes and excess profit extraction, the Scottish Government’s recently withdrawn National Care Service Bill did not propose any change to who provides care. Neither has the Scottish Government brought forward reforms to address these issues since it withdrew the NCS Bill. Using data from the Care Inspectorate, this report analyses complaints into older people’s care homes in the private, voluntary and public sector over the last three years.

STUC report into staffing resources in older people’s care homes

This report uses Care Inspectorate data to examine differences in staffing resources across private, voluntary and public sector care homes for older people. It finds that staffing resources in older people’s care homes are 20% lower in the private sector compared to the not-for-profit (public and voluntary) sector.

Weathering the Storm - Testimony from Scotland's workers during Storm Éowyn

The STUC runs an open survey for workers to share their concerns and experience during severe weather events. This form was first used during Storm Isha and Jocelyn in January 2024 and remains open to workers throughout the year. On the day of Storm Éowyn, the form was circulated through social media channels. Over the course of the day, 48 workers responded. This paper summaries their responses and the protections which must be in place going forward.
