No more Creative Standards - Cement Fair Work in the Art of Scotland

Following the work carried out by the STUC and Trade Unions within Scotland’s Culture Sector, the Scottish Government commissioned two Independent reports into Creative Scotland and Fair Work within Scotland’s cultural and creative industries.

These reports proposed a combined total of 52 recommendations to improve the conditions of the estimated 90,000 workers across Scotland.

None of the 52 recommendations were enacted before the Scottish Parliament session ended for the 2026 elections.

We need all political parties to pledge the immediate adaption and implementation of the recommendations as soon as possible following the election period.

Round table event - Uniting Communities and Unions against Cuts

This is a Scottish Trades Union Council and Scottish Morning Star initiative looking at community campaigning and engagement.

Over the past period all communities across Scotland have faced severe cuts in services, housing and amenities. Those providing them have seen reductions in conditions and employment. Further cuts are likely in the run-up to next May’s council elections – and more, unless challenged, thereafter.

‘Uniting Communities’ seeks to build unity across communities between those who use services and those who provide them, bringing together Community Councils, tenants, the voluntary sector, trades councils, unions, pensioners who have lived long in our communities and those recently arrived.

To kickstart this initiative we are proposing to hold a Round Table event looking at existing community campaigns across Scotland to share learning and expertise. The event will be held both in person and online. Speakers are Tommy Morrison, Clydebank TUC; Susan Galloway, public transport campaigner; David Blair, Moray TUC; and Chris Cullen, Edinburgh Housing campaign
