Nelson Mandela Memorial statue unveiling on 9 October
On 9th October the Scottish Nelson Mandela Memorial Campaign will publicly unveil the Nelson Mandela Memorial statue in Nelson Mandela Place, Glasgow. The event will run from 4pm-5pm.
9th October marks the anniversary of Mandela’s 1993 visit to Glasgow to collect the freedoms of nine UK cities. Glasgow was notably the first city in the world to grant Mandela the Freedom of the City in 1981 while he was still imprisoned on Robben Island.
Scottish Trade Unions have long supported the campaign to memorialise Mandela and this will be a historic event that we know many members and activists will wish to attend.
