No more Creative Standards - Cement Fair Work in the Art of Scotland

Following the work carried out by the STUC and Trade Unions within Scotland’s Culture Sector, the Scottish Government commissioned two Independent reports into Creative Scotland and Fair Work within Scotland’s cultural and creative industries.

These reports proposed a combined total of 52 recommendations to improve the conditions of the estimated 90,000 workers across Scotland.

None of the 52 recommendations were enacted before the Scottish Parliament session ended for the 2026 elections.

We need all political parties to pledge the immediate adaption and implementation of the recommendations as soon as possible following the election period.

Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung course: Worker’s Power: Organising to Win

Friday, 17th July at 12 PM to Sunday, 20th July at 3pm

Golden Jubilee Conference Centre, Clydebank

The STUC has the opportunity to host and fully fund the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung course Workers’ Power: Organising to Win.

This residential course is completely free for participants, with all meals and accommodation included. Spaces are open to both individuals and small groups of workers.

The course is particularly suited to workers with shared political or organising goals, or those currently involved in campaigns or industrial action, although this is not essential. It is designed for newly active unionised workers, as well as reps, branch officers and more experienced activists.

Combining political education with practical organising techniques, the course supports workers to build confidence, strengthen workplace organisation and develop the skills needed to win.

The course has already been delivered across the UK, including once in Scotland, and has been taken up by unions including NEU, UNISON, IWGB, Equity and BFAWU. Previous courses have helped recruit hundreds of new members and supported the development of new reps, branch officers and campaign leaders.
