Let’s Go Public: how we can transform our buses, energy and home insulation webinar
We launched our report and the ‘Let’s Go Public’ Toolkit at events at COSLA and the Scottish and Parliament on 27 October. In this webinar you can hear the main messages from the policy report and the practical steps which can be initiated using the toolkit.
The research highlights successful examples of local government ownership in key sectors which can support climate targets, greater wealth retention, and better services - buses, energy generation, heat networks and home insulation retrofit.
Written by the Centre for Local Economies (CLES), leading authorities on community wealth building, the report argues that public money spent on these services should build public assets and capacity - retaining benefits for workers and communities whilst cutting climate pollution - rather than continue subsidising private ownership.
The ground-breaking Toolkit is a practical starting point for local authorities and other public bodies exploring public ownership of bus services, energy and home retrofit which will help identify opportunities the next practical steps. It can also be used by climate campaigners and trade unionists who want to press for public ownership and better progress on a just transition to a decarbonised economy.
