Motion 113
Palestine
“That this Congress notes with grave concern Israeli military operations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The response of the Israeli Government to the attacks on its military personnel and civilian citizens on 7/8th October 2023 has gone well beyond what the Israeli Government initially claimed to be self-defence.
“Congress notes that the Israeli military operations have caused a humanitarian crisis and amount to a genocide on the Palestinian people. In recent months the Israeli Government has intensified its brutal attacks on the Palestinian people, subjecting 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza to unprecedented bombardment and widespread settler violence on Palestinians in the West Bank. The Israeli Government has inflicted widespread destruction in Gaza killing in excess of 22,000 people and injuring many thousands more.
“Congress condemns the Israeli Government’s demand for over 1 million Palestinians to evacuate to Northern Gaza and the inhumane denial of essential supplies to the people of Gaza. Congress notes that the Palestinian Trade Union movement have issued an appeal and call for action by asking the International Trade Union movement to take steps to end all forms of complicity with the Israeli Government’s crimes.
“Congress calls on the General Council to:
• Call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza;
• Call on the UK Government to cease military support to Israel, which adds to the risk of extending the conflict to other states;
• Support national and local protests against the Israeli Government’s attacks on the Palestinian people;
• Making a declaration of support for the Palestinian people and re-affirming support for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel to bring it into line with its obligations under international law;
• Ask affiliates to make a donation to Medical Aid for Palestinians; and
• Ask affiliates to consider supporting Scottish Friends of Palestine and the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.”
