RMT 20th Anniversary Reparations Solidarity Event on 23 August 2026

Return the Land. Restore the Tongue. Rebuild the People.

RMT posterThis landmark RMT conference will bring together trade unionists, reparations campaigners, community organisations, political figures and international speakers to explore reparations, restoration and the fight for structural justice.

The conference will examine the theft of land, wealth, culture and language, while challenging colonial narratives and recognising the knowledge, achievements and humanity of African ancestors before enslavement and colonisation.

The three pillars

Return the Land
Exploring land dispossession, resource extraction and the theft of material wealth.

Restore the Tongue
Examining the destruction of ancestral languages and efforts to reclaim linguistic and cultural heritage.

Rebuild the People
Addressing the realities of the diaspora, fragmented identities and generational repair, while centring the leadership of Afrikan and diaspora women.

Practical workshops

Attendees can take part in interactive workshops covering:

  • Writing and passing trade union resolutions

  • Navigating reparations research and historical evidence

  • Parliamentary lobbying and the All-Party Parliamentary Group on African Reparations

The programme will also include traditional opening libations, cultural drumming, keynote speeches, panel discussions and audience question-and-answer sessions.

Speakers will include historian Robin Walker, known as The Black History Man, alongside international scholars, organisers and campaigners.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to contribute to and vote on a Global Solidarity Declaration and a trade union position on reparations.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, followed by a complimentary hot Caribbean dinner during the networking session.

Tickets are free, but registration is required to secure a place, refreshments and a meal.
