Military Gap Year
“That this Congress notes the proposed military gap year is not in the interests of working youth. The military gap year is an attempt to whip up jingoism within a section of the population who increasingly do not wish to fight for a country that hasn’t the willingness to provide even the most basic of public services. The government’s call for a ‘whole of society approach to defence’ should instead be a ‘whole of society approach to peace’.
“Congress calls on the General Council to:
- continue their work with apprentices through Scottish Union Learning; and
- openly condemn the military gap year.”
