Our economy and workplaces are changing as countries including Scotland move to a low carbon economy. Workers and their trade unions must lead this change.
The STUC is working with trade unions to build a worker-led Just Transition. That means future-proofing existing workplaces, creating new good jobs, and expanding our public services.
Through this project, we’re producing practical workplace guides, running workshops across Scotland, and supporting campaigns that put workers before profit.

While Scotland is no stranger to adverse weather, the number and severity of these events is on the rise. This survey is part of our efforts to understand how workers are treated during severe weather, and what protections exist within different workplaces for health and safety at these times.

The Next Stop - STUC Bus Research
Earlier this year, the STUC published it’s new report, The Next Stop: The case for publicly owned buses in Scotland, which sets out the urgent need for greater public control of Scotland’s bus network. The evidence is clear: private bus operators are not commercially viable without substantial public subsidy – yet services are being cut, and profits continue to flow out of the system.
Our report highlights the failures of the current privatised model, and the opportunity to build a new generation of publicly owned bus services across Scotland. It outlines practical steps councils and regional partnerships can take – from piloting local publicly owned operators to preparing for franchising – to ensure better buses, better value for public money, and a better deal for passengers and workers.

Political Education course - sign up
There is a lot of talk about climate change in the UK, yet this rarely reflects the experiences and knowledge of the working-class here or in countries across the world.
Our political education course equips trade union members and reps like you with the information and arguments to counter the propaganda of the right and organise in our workplaces and communities.
This interactive course addresses:
- What is climate change and who is responsible for it?
- How did we get here and what has the response been so far?
- Who should hold power and how do we win for the working-class?
