STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith said: “Early indications suggest a very solid turnout in Scotland by members of the Public and Civil Service Union and very strong support south of the border in the joint action being taken by 1.5 million public service workers, teachers and civil servants.

Grahame Smith, STUC General Secretary said: "There can be no justification for the kidnap and murder of the three Israeli teenagers Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Frankel including the fact that the killings took place in the illegally occupied West Bank, STUC has today conveyed our sympathy to the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC) which is holding a memorial service this evening.

Trade Union members gather in Inverness to debate referendum

Tomorrow (Saturday 14 June) trade union members from across the area will meet in Inverness for the STUC’s annual Highlands and Islands Conference. Representatives of the Yes and Better Together campaigns will address the conference and then engage in a panel debate responding to questions from the floor. The Conference will also discuss a range of issues including the current state of the highlands and islands economy and labour market and trade union organising priorities.
