In 2014, then-STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith addressed Catalan Trade Unions on Scotland’s Independence Referendum, highlighting the parallels between the two countries and how the STUC has sought, through the ‘A Just Scotland’ initiative, to ensure that the STUC’s social justice agenda and vision of the type of Scotland we want for the future is at the heart of the Referendum debate. 

The STUC supports the right of the people of Catalunya to self-determination and has called for the release and acquittal of all political prisoners. 

The STUC has strong sororal relations with the Catalan unions CCOO Catalunya and UGT Catalunya.
