The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) has today written to public authorities across Scotland to highlight the effect of the Trade Union Bill on their own working practices. The Trade Union Bill, which receives its second reading in Parliament today, contains a variety of negative impacts for trade unions and workers across Scotland but there are two specific issues that impact on public sector employers. These changes will negatively affect industrial relations and the running of public services in Scotland.

STUC on rise in zero-hour contracts

The publication of a report ‘Older Women and Work – Looking to the Future’ today from the Scottish Commission on Older Women, brings to the fore the experiences of older women seeking to remain in, or re-enter, the labour market. With rising numbers of women over the age of 50 in the labour market in Scotland, Government, employers and trade unions have roles to play in ensuring good quality employment with sufficient flexibility and training opportunities, recognising changing family and caring responsibilities too.
