STUC publishes Budget for Rebuilding Collective Prosperity

STUC today published it’s submission to the Treasury in advance of Pre-Budget Report 2009 It does so in the wake of the news that the UK manufacturing sector suffered an unexpected slowdown in activity last month raising fresh doubts about claims of an economic recovery.

Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary Grahame Smith today said: “Along with many others in Scotland, STUC will give today’s document the consideration it deserves. We certainly do not oppose a referendum in principle, however the question of when such a referendum should take place and most importantly, what question should be asked, are central to the view we will take.

Trade unionists, politicians, faith and community groups will today (Saturday 28 November 2009) march through Glasgow’s streets in a visible demonstration against racism and fascism. Organised by the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC), the Annual St Andrew’s Day Anti Racism March and Rally will show a Scotland united against racism, and in difficult economic times will remind people of the dangers of allowing prejudice and discrimination to go unchallenged.

STUC to ask Celtic fans to show Palestinian flags in solidarity with suffering Palestinians on December 2nd

Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) Deputy General Secretary Dave Moxham said: “This December marks the one year anniversary of the Israeli invasion of Gaza in which 1400 men, women and children were killed in an act described by the United Nations as ‘indicating serious violations of international human rights’ and ‘amounting to war crimes, and possibly crimes against humanity.’
