Workers from throughout Scotland are today (Friday 15 May) mobilising against the BNP and encouraging people to use their vote in next month’s Euro Elections. The anti-racist organisation Searchlight, has designated Friday 15 May as “Union Friday” in its Hope not Hate campaign, and is working with trade unions across the UK.

The Scottish Trade Union Congress has welcomed the announcement that the UK Government plans to consult on formal recognition of International Workers Memorial Day.

To mark International Workers Memorial Day the STUC is calling for increased enforcement of health and safety legislation and a concerted effort by employers to work with trade unions in demanding the Scottish Government introduce a long term strategy leading to comprehensive and sustainable occupational health provision.
