The STUC has sent a message of support to the drivers employed by Norbert Dentressangle to deliver the Argos Distribution contract who are taking strike action over the latest attack on their pension entitlement.

STUC General Secretary, Grahame Smith said

“We fully support the Argos delivery drivers and this day of action is a timely reminder that private sector as well as public sector workers continue to face attacks on their pension schemes.

“A little over a week ago we witnessed the biggest walk out in Scotland decades as public sector workers expressed their anger at the coalition Government’s attempts to raid their pensions schemes to reduce the fiscal deficit .

“While this action may only affect a handful of workers it is just as significant. These workers have seen their pension benefits eroded by Argos who retain control of the pension scheme with the result that the longest serving workers stand to lose tens of thousands of pounds as a result of this latest attack.

“Argos seems to have used subcontracting of their distribution to erode the terms and conditions of a loyal workforce and their actions are just as unacceptable as those of the coalition Government.

“The STUC supports the workers and their union Unite and we will continue to send a clear message to all employers, both public and private that pensions justice is pensions justice for all”
