STUC welcomes success of Bill Butler’s Damages (Scotland) Bill

The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) today welcomed the successful passage through the Scottish Parliament of the Damages (Scotland) Bill proposed by Bill Butler MSP.

Assistant Secretary of the STUC, Ian Tasker, said in reaction to the news of the vote in Parliament

‘We congratulate Bill Butler on the success of his Bill today. This welcome legislation will greatly improve the rights of those seeking compensation for personal injuries and wrongful deaths.

‘We also pay tribute to those who have campaigned and fought on behalf of victims for compensation for their contribution. The Clydebank Asbestos Group, Clydeside Action on asbestos and Thompsons Solicitors all of whose work has focused the attention on the plight of those suffering from work related illnesses such as mesothelioma and asbestos related lung cancer who seek justice.’
