Importance of manufacturing acknowledged in Scottish Government-STUC communiqué

May 26th 2010

The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) has today agreed a joint communiqué with the Scottish Government providing a clear framework for future work to support the manufacturing sector in Scotland.

Following the fifth bi-annual meeting with the First Minister Alex Salmond held today which focused on the economy and relations with the UK Government, STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith said:

“The Scottish Government’s decision to defer the spending cuts announced by the Chancellor this week is a welcome one as it will help efforts to secure Scotland’s economic recovery.

“The joint communiqué on manufacturing signed today is an important signal of our shared commitment to help sustain and grow this important sector, which has a key role to play in delivering a strong, sustainable recovery.”
