Commenting on the General Election result, Grahame Smith, Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary said:
“Under the existing electoral system, no single party can claim to have won this election. It is now essential that all parties act responsibly in the days and weeks ahead and that some form of stable government emerges.
“With unemployment in Scotland continuing to rise, the priority must be to secure the recovery from recession. Across the UK there is a clear majority against immediate and deep cuts in public expenditure and this must be reflected in any outcomes from discussions about the nature and form of the next government”.
