Commenting on Harriet Harman’s speech to STUC Congress 2009, Grahame Smith, STUC General Secretary said:
“The STUC hoped that during this Congress political speakers would address both the changing economic times and the need to assist those hardest hit by recession.
“Therefore, it was hugely encouraging to hear Harriet acknowledge that ‘help in difficult times must go to those who need it most’ and that ‘you cannot cut your way out of recession’. The STUC looks forward to this proactive agenda being fully reflected in Wednesday’s Budget.
“I was also delighted that Harriet recognised the important work undertaken by trade union workplace equality representatives”.
