Commenting on the announcement today of a second package of Government measures designed to get the Banks lending again, Grahame Smith, Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary said:
“There is no doubt that the Government is right to introduce these measures. The economy currently stands on the edge of an abyss and will not move towards safer ground until the supply of credit is restored.
“However, Ministers can anticipate a large degree of public hostility towards this second instalment of the bank bailout. A full public inquiry into the behaviour of the banks, their advisers and auditors is necessary to prevent such a debacle happening again in the future”.
