Reacting to the result of the US Presidential election Grahame Smith, Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary said:
“Obama’s victory really is momentous. Not only do we have the first Black President, but Barack Obama has really demonstrated how to engage with the electorate and inspire voters to turn out. The STUC looks forward to seeing a radical shift in how the United States relates to the rest of the world”.
Nazerin Wardrop, Chairperson of the STUC Black Workers’ Committee said
“This is a fantastic day for Black people across the globe. Barack Obama is an inspiration for Black people in Scotland and throughout the world. He has a lot to live up to, but this really is the culmination of the hopes and dreams of generations of Black Americans. We hope this achievement provides the impetus for positive change to representation in Scotland’s Parliament, townhalls and boardrooms”.
