Commenting after the Scottish Government announced that it was minded to consent Donald Trump’s development in Aberdeenshire, Stephen Boyd, STUC Assistant Secretary said:
“The Scottish Government desperately needs to sort out planning policy in relation to the management of Scotland’s protected areas.
“The current lack of consistency is manifested in the decisions to approve Trump but reject the Lewis wind farm project which would have provided tangible economic benefits in a fragile remote economy. Inconsistency in decision-making inevitably invites accusations of bias and political opportunism which don’t help in improving the process in everyone’s interests.
“Government and agencies must now work together to provide both potential developers and communities with a better understanding of the type of development that might be possible in or near areas designated under the Birds and Habitats Directives”.
