The appointment of Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary, Grahame Smith to serve on the UK Commission for Employment and Skills was announced today (Monday 10 December).
On the announcement Grahame Smith said
“I am delighted to be appointed to a body which will play a central role in raising the UK’s skills base, improving productivity and competitiveness, increasing employment and making a contribution to a fairer society.
“The STUC has been at the forefront of the skills and lifelong learning agenda for many years and I will share our knowledge and experience in Scotland with my fellow commissioners, and I’m sure I will learn much from them.
“I will look forward to playing my part in securing a highly skilled, productive workforce throughout the UK and increasing employment levels, particularly for those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
