The Scottish TUC gave its support for the second one day national strike today (1 May) by civil and public servants across 200 government departments, agencies and non-departmental bodies in an escalation in a dispute over job cuts, pay and privatisation. STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith said “We again call on the civil service employers to enter into serious negotiations with the PCS at the earliest opportunity. The employers’ point blank refusal to resolve the dispute, either through direct negotiation or ACAS, is further evidence to confirm the real concerns of union members in the civil service on redundancies, pay, working conditions and outsourcing which are at the root of this dispute. “A resolution will only be reached by meaningful negotiations and we again urge the Government and the Civil Service employers to enter into discussions with the trade union as a matter of urgency. This is a dispute that will not go away.”
