In response to the treatment of trade unionists by the Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary, Grahame Smith has sent a message of solidarity to the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions.
In his message Grahame Smith says “The treatment of trade unionists by the Mugabe regime is nothing less than criminal. The ability to demonstrate and associate with others, are fundamental human rights. The actions of the Zimbabwean government in attacking the Zimbabwean Congress of Trade Unions, in violently assaulting trade union members, and in seizing their literature, are clear breaches of these basic human rights.
“The STUC looks forward to welcoming ZCTU Vice President Lucia Matibenga to our Congress in Glasgow. We all have a duty to stand together with our brothers and sisters in Zimbabwe, and send the message to Mugabe’s government, and the international community, that the attacks on trade unionists are unacceptable. An injury to one is an injury to all.”
