STUC support Bin the Bomb March
Scotland’s for Peace is organising a march and rally on the theme “Bin the Bomb – don’t replace Trident” in Glasgow on Saturday 24 February 2007. The march will begin at 11.30am in George Square and will culminate in an indoor rally at 12.30pm. The rally will end a series of meetings in Scotland this week as part of the “Bin the Bomb” roadshow. Speakers at the rally will be STUC President Katrina Purcell, Cardinal Keith O’Brien, Rev Alan McDonald, Bruce Kent, Jeremy Corbyn, Alex Salmond MP, and representatives from UNISON and TGWU, amongst others.
Speaking prior to the march and rally STUC President, Katrina Purcell said
“Trident along with all nuclear weapons, is a weapon of mass destruction, capable of killing millions of people. The STUC is opposed to all nuclear weapons and believes the most logical way of avoiding conflict is by getting rid of nuclear weapons, rather than escalating the arms race.
“The STUC is pleased to support today’s Bin the Bomb March and Rally, and congratulates Scotland’s Peace Movement on keeping up the momentum for peace throughout the world.”
