STUC Supports CWU Rally and Lobby of Scottish Parliament
Commenting prior to today’s (Wednesday 21st February) Communication Workers Union lobby and rally as part of the ‘Serving Quality – A Future for our Post Office’ campaign STUC General Secretary, Grahame Smith, said,
“This is an important campaign and we encourage as many MSPs as possible to attend this afternoon to provide support to Post Office workers.
“The STUC recognises that there are some positive measures included in the Government’s proposals for the future of the Post Office. However, if all the proposals are implemented, the result will be a massively reduced Post Office network with the loss of thousands of well paid jobs and a reduction in the quality of service.
“The CWU’s Serving Quality campaign sets out a positive agenda to expand and fully utilise the Post Office network to increase social inclusion and build community cohesion. The Government must listen to the wide coalition of stakeholders who believe that the current plans will not only be detrimental to Post Office workers but also small businesses and communities”.
