NEWS RELEASE
"Centre for Corporate Accountability and STUC announce first conference on corporate killing"
The CCA with the support of the STUC and Thompsons Solicitors have announced plans to hold a Conference on Thursday, 23 October 2003 highlight the issue of "Safety and Corporate Criminal Accountability".
This conference, the first in Scotland, will explore the adequacy of Scottish law and the Scottish criminal justice system in investigating, prosecuting and sentencing companies and individuals whose conduct results in death or injury. The conference will, in particular, consider the law of homicide, the arrangements for the investigation of deaths, and the duties imposed upon directors and whether reforms in this area are necessary.
The issues surrounding Corporate Criminal Accountability are extremely pertinent at the moment as a result of the recent decision to drop culpable homicide charges against gas supply company Transco and the likelihood of an increased number of deaths by Scottish workers in the last year.
The conference will held on Thursday 23 October 2003 at the Moir Hall (Mitchell Theatre Complex) in Glasgow.
Further details can be found on the conference website http://www.corporateaccountability.org/conference/Oct03Scotland.htm
