Speaking after the European Commission published its decision following a lengthy investigation into public financing of ferry services in Scotland, Stephen Boyd, Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) Assistant Secretary said:
“The STUC notes today’s decision by the European Commission. On the face of it, the decision appears to be generally positive given that the subsidy regime has been deemed to be within EU law and there seem to be no explicit moves to break up the Clyde and Hebrides bundle.
“However, the STUC will reserve judgement until we have had an opportunity to properly digest the full text of the decision. In particular we will be considering the appropriateness of the decision to tender the Gourock-Dunoon service and whether this will have wider implications for Scotland’s ferry services”.
