Educate Agitate Organise: the STUC Blog

March 6th 2009
Commenting in the interval between the Prime Minister’s address to Scottish Labour Party Conference and his meeting with an Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) delegation, Dave Moxham, STUC Deputy General Secretary said:
“The STUC welcomes the Prime Minister’s acknowledgement that the Government can’t privatise or deregulate its way out of recession. Similarly, his clear commitment to establishing a new global regulatory framework including action on tax havens represents real progress.
“When the STUC meets with Gordon Brown this afternoon, we will be pressing the case for Budget 2009 to include a further substantial fiscal stimulus. This must include targeted support for low paid workers and the unemployed, further investment in labour intensive public works and sufficient funding to underpin the Government’s commitment to a low carbon industrial strategy”.
