Women Trade Unionists gather in Perth

October 29th 2010

Women from workplaces all across Scotland will be arriving in Perth on Monday 1 November 2010 for the Annual Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) Women’s Conference.

The Conference is attended by around 150 women delegates from the trade unions and trade union councils that are affiliated to the STUC. These affiliates are able to submit motions for debate and consideration by the Conference. The Conference votes on the motions submitted and also elects women delegates to serve on the STUC's Women's Committee each year. The Women's Committee comprises 18 women and is held accountable to the Annual Women's Conference. The annual work plan of the Committee is determined following discussions on the motions agreed at Conference, and the priorities of the STUC as a whole.

The theme of this year’s Conference is ‘Women and Justice’.

Speakers will include Johann Lamont MSP; Juliet Lyon, Director Prison Reform Trust; Professor Ailsa Mackay, Glasgow Caledonian University; and Taryn Trainor, Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

Stalls and visitors from a wide range of organisations will be at Conference. If you would like to call in to the Conference, please contact STUC Assistant Secretary, Ann Henderson on: 07875 208 167 (email: ahenderson@stuc.org.uk )
