STUC on employment statistics

December 16th 2009

Commenting on the publication today of the latest set of labour market statistics for Scotland, Grahame Smith, STUC General Secretary said:

“It is encouraging to note both the increase in the total number of people employed in Scotland and the small decrease in ILO unemployment. However, the increase in the claimant count is a concern.

“All recent economic data suggests that the recovery will be slow and difficult. It is essential that both the UK and Scottish Governments maintain all measures introduced to support people back into work”.
