Scottish unions welcome financial boost to “Adopt an Apprentice”

June 10th 2009

The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) today welcomed the Scottish Government’s “Adopt an Apprentice” scheme, and the financial support for employers to take on unemployed apprentices.

Speaking today STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith said:

“This is good news for apprentices who have had their training interrupted. We welcome the Scottish Government’s financial support to firms in all sectors, and the fact that the scheme is open to apprentices young and old”.

“It is vital that that the Scottish Government also supports people that are currently in work to remain in work, by updating their skills too. The STUC is urging Scottish Ministers to ensure all employers are investing in skills and training so that our economy emerges strongly from this recession”.
