Glasgow Community Dietitian to receive 2015 STUC Organising Award

April 21st 2015

The recipient of this year’s Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) Organising Award is Helen McDonald who works as a Community Dietitian for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Helen has been a Union representative for the British Dietetic Association (BDA) for 31 years and has held the position of Secretary to the Scottish Employment Relations Committee (ScERC) of the BDA since its inception in 1999.

STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith said

“Helen’s outstanding organising work ensures new reps are equipped to face challenges from poorly informed managers in their early days of supporting BDA members in the workplace, vitally important for a small trade union with no full time support based in Scotland.

“As an NHS employee, Helen is committed to her patients as well as her colleagues and recognises the role trade unions play in delivering a first class publicly funded health service.

“The STUC are in no doubt that Helen’s outstanding organising work on behalf of her members is a shining example to trade union activists throughout Scotland in ensuring representatives are properly trained and equipped to effectively represent members in the workplace. “Helen McDonald is indeed a worthy recipient of the STUC Organising Award.”
