Workers have lost a ‘staggering’ £1200 from their pay packets according to Scotland’s largest trade union body. New analysis from the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) has revealed workers' pay in Scotland is down by £1223 within the last two years as a result of pay not keeping up with inflation. The average worker in Scotland took home £533 a week in October. In real terms, this has fallen £13 a week since October 2021.

Sequential council tax freezes without adequate compensation is one of the key reasons why local services are in such a mess.

The human suffering of the past week is unimaginable. We utterly condemn the killing of civilians at the hands of Hamas and call for the immediate release of all hostages. Just as previous wrongs can never justify the attack on the defenceless by Hamas, neither does this recent tragedy justify the unfolding humanitarian disaster caused by IDF bombing and siege. Cutting off supplies to Gaza is a war crime.
