On the eve of publication of the next set of labour market statistics for Scotland, the STUC has released an estimate of Scotland’s full-time employment deficit, which at 17.25%, is far in excess of the unemployment rate of 7.7%. The 15th STUC Black Workers’ Conference will take place in Glasgow this weekend (Saturday and Sunday 1-2 October). The Conference will debate a number of motions on issues of particular concern to black and ethnic minorities – on equality, defending jobs, pay, pensions and public services, cuts in education, protecting migrants and victims of trafficking, as well as motions on Egypt and Syria.
