Grahame Smith, Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) General Secretary today wrote to Mark Hollinshead, Managing Director, Nationals at Trinity Mirror to ask that current plans to cut jobs at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail are reassessed in light of News International’s current difficulties.

STUC on GDP figures – already weak recovery has now effectively stalled

Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) Deputy General Secretary Dave Moxham said: “No amount of spin or hopeful guesswork can disguise the fact that today's figures show that the UK's previously very weak recovery has effectively stalled. The 0.2% growth figure is far short of the 0.8% which was needed to meet the Chancellor’s feeble recovery target. Our performance compares poorly with that of countries such as Germany and France.
