17th : Chancellor pays tribute to LIFELONG LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Rachael Bonner, a PCS Regional Learning Officer for HM Revenue and Customs in Cumbernauld, has been chosen to receive the 2nd annual Helen Dowie Award for Lifelong Learning at the Scottish TUC Annual Congress in Glasgow. The award, presented by the First Minister Jack McConnell MSP, recognises the pivotal role played by trade union activists in the promotion of workplace lifelong learning in memory of Helen Dowie, a trade unionist from Fife who died in 2005 from cancer.

Scots workers are more likely to undertake learning because of their current level of qualification and the involvement of a trade union in learning.
15th : STUC publishes the ‘Future of Manufacturing Industry in Scotland’
Speaking as the STUC published a discussion paper ‘The Future of Manufacturing Industry in Scotland’, Grahame Smith, STUC General Secretary said: “The STUC believes there is a positive future for manufacturing industry in Scotland. We hope this discussion paper stimulates a mature discussion on the action required to ensure that manufacturing stabilises and grows.
15th : Election candidates must recognise the priorities of trade union members
This year's STUC Annual Congress will take place in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall between 16 -18 April. The theme for Congress is "reaching out" and will focus on the vital role trade unions currently play, and will play in the future, in helping the most vulnerable in the workplace and across wider society.

The new STUC One Workplace Equality Award to recognise the role of Scottish trade union members in challenging discriminatory practices and attitudes in the workplace has been presented at the STUC Annual Congress being held at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.

On the opening day of the STUC Annual Congress in Glasgow STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith criticised all political parties for lack of action on the issue of corporate killing.
16th : Scottish Launch of FACK
The campaign group Families Against Corporate Killers (FACK) will be holding a Scottish launch on Tuesday 17th April during the STUC Congress. FACK was launched in June 2006 by a group of families who are justifiably angry and annoyed at employers who kill their workers with little possibility of being held to account.

The STUC is giving the ACTSA Scotland/Community HEART Book and £1 Appeal a very special profile at this year’s annual Congress currently being held in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, as a very practical and simple demonstration of solidarity with Southern Africa.
