STUC President Phil McGarry and First Minister Alex Salmond will today sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) committing the STUC and the Scottish Government to work in partnership across a wide range of public policy issues.

Commentating on the decision of the Monetary Policy Committee to cut interest rates by a quarter of one per cent, Stephen Boyd, STUC Assistant Secretary said: “This is the right decision. Although inflationary pressures remain, the threats to growth are real and immediate. The cut will help mitigate the impact of ongoing instability in the financial markets”.
