STUC today welcomed the overall aim of the Government White Paper to support and encourage people to work but warned that the initiative would founder without adequate action to ensure that employers provide employment opportunity, sustainable jobs and progression.
5th : STUC General Secretary Bill Speirs Retires
Bill Speirs has retired from the post of STUC General Secretary it was announced today. Bill Speirs has had a distinguished career serving as an officer of the STUC for nearly 30 years.
12th : Energy Review a step in the right direction
Commenting on the publication of the Government’s Energy Review, Stephen Boyd, STUC Assistant Secretary said: “The STUC believes the review represents a step in the right direction towards the balanced energy policy for which trade unions have long campaigned.

The STUC has expressed concern that the new Corporate Manslaughter Bill will result in many involuntary deaths in Scotland will going unpunished with the real perpetrators able to hide behind the corporate veil while innocent people lose their lives
