Commenting on publication of the Scottish Executive's National Transport Strategy, Stephen Boyd, STUC Assistant Secretary, said:
3rd : SCOTTISH TRADES UNION CONGRESS APPOINTS NEW GENERAL SECRETARY
Grahame Smith, 47, has been appointed as the new General Secretary of the STUC. Grahame was previously Deputy General Secretary and headed the STUC’s Policy and Campaigns Department.
4th : 21st Century priorities at centre of the STUC’s “7 for 2007”
The STUC will today (Monday 4 December) launch its manifesto for the 2007 Scottish Parliamentary Elections. The STUC will promote the key measures outlined in the manifesto during a series of meetings with the main parties at Scottish Parliament this week.
6th : Trade union engagement with Scottish Parliament making real difference for workers in Scotland
Speaking ahead of debate on the role of trade unions and their engagement with civic society, newly appointed STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith said: “I am pleased to see the efforts of trade unions being debated in the Scottish Parliament and recognition given to the increasingly important role we play across Scottish society in the 21st Century.

Commenting today (Wednesday, 6 December) on the Conservative amendment to the Scottish Parliament motion on Trade Union engagement with Scotland’s civic society, STUC General Secretary, Grahame Smith, said "A year into David Cameron's leadership and it appears his much heralded modernising agenda has yet to make it across the border where, evidently, old Tory prejudices still exist.
6th : STUC Comment on Pre Budget Report
Commenting on today’s (Wednesday, 06 December) pre-budget speech by the Chancellor, STUC General Secretary Grahame Smith said “There is much to be welcomed in the Chancellors statement, particularly the extra resources provided to ensure the national minimum wage is effectively enforced.
5th : UNION LEARNING IS THE ROUTE TO A SUCCESSFUL SCOTLAND
Tomorrow, Wednesday 6 December, Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) from Aberdeen, Glasgow, Motherwell, Dundee, Ayrshire and Inverness will travel to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh to participate in a meeting with MSPs and Parliamentary Assistants to discuss the lifelong learning agenda. This meeting is a part of Trade Union Week at the Scottish Parliament 4 – 7 December 2006.
