Women trade unionists from across Scotland will today hear from the Communities Minister Malcolm Chisholm MSP, as he gives a Scottish Executive response to the UK-wide Women and Work Commission recommendations.

The Scottish Trades Union Congress has announced the second year of an annual award in memory of Helen Dowie, a trade unionist from Fife, who died from cancer in 2005. The award recognises the pivotal role played by trade union activists in the promotion of workplace lifelong learning.

The first Trade Union Week will be held at the Scottish Parliament 4 – 7 December 2006. On Wednesday 6 December, Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) will travel to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh to participate in a meeting with MSPs and Parliamentary Assistants to discuss the lifelong learning agenda.
