STUC SAYS "NO CASE FOR WAR" - ELECTION CANDIDATES MUST MAKE THEIR POSITION CLEAR"
Following today's meeting of the STUC General Council, General Secretary, Bill Speirs, said:
"The General Council today hailed the massive anti-war marches in Scotland on February 15, expressed its firm belief that no case has been made for war on Iraq and reiterated its commitment to support the Scottish Campaign for Justice Not War.
"Candidates for election to the Scottish Parliament and Scottish local Councils on 1 May need to make their position equally clear.
"As the men and women in our armed forces prepare for war, and possible violent death, they and their families deserve to know where Scotland stands. The STUC is unequioval - no case for war has been made. We now need to know where our politicians stand, especially those standing for election on 1 May to the Scottish Parliament and Scottish local Councils.
"War does not stop at Westminster."
