STUC slams Scottish & Newcastle's "corporate greed" and shabby treatment of dedicated staff
Responding to the news that Scottish and Newcastle intends to close its historic Fountainbridge brewery, STUC general Secretary Bill Speirs said:
"The STUC is shocked and angered by Scottish and Newcastle's declared intention to close Fountainbridge which appears motivated by sheer corporate greed. Given Edinburgh's inflated property market, you have to wonder whether it is the fact they own a prime city centre asset that has prompted S & N to close this historic site.
"The really disappointing aspect is that, once again, it is workers who have proved willing and able to adapt to new working practices who will lose their jobs. The workforce at Fountainbridge have been treated shabbily and the STUC will stand firm behind them in fighting to retain important jobs in Edinburgh".
