Scotland’s Trade Unions to get Scottish Government answers on ScotRail Franchise
Following representations from the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC), affiliated trade unions and from many MSPs, there will be a Ministerial Statement on Thursday (17 April 2008) on the decision to extend the ScotRail franchise.
Grahame Smith, General Secretary STUC, said
‘The STUC welcome the proposed change to the Scottish Parliament business agenda for Thursday to allow for a Ministerial Statement on this very important issue.
‘The ScotRail franchise is the biggest contract let by Scottish Ministers, and it is not acceptable that it should be done with no consultation and no scrutiny. There are many unanswered questions, including why it was necessary to press ahead with negotiations on a contract extension prior to the completion of the Audit Scotland report. We await the Minister’s Statement with interest’
