STUC Disappointed at Intrusions into the Lives of ICL/Stockline Families
Speaking following the ICL/Stockline guilty plea at the High Court and the subsequent press event with the families, STUC General Secretary, Grahame Smith, said:
“It is extremely disappointing that despite the efforts of the families to provide interviews to a wide section of the media through an agreed process, some families have already reported incidences of unwelcome intrusions into their personal lives by rogue journalists.
“However, it was welcome that the media which attended the arranged press events, and respected the wishes of the families immediately following the guilty plea at the High Court, continued to respect these wishes during the press conference.
“We will continue to fight for a public inquiry and media coverage is essential to meet this aim, but it is worrying that a small minority of the media may potentially destroy the confidence of the families, during what is already a very stressful and upsetting time.
“We would like to repeat the wishes of the families that their privacy be respected.”
