STUC on industrial action by Network rail signalling staff
Speaking as RMT signallers began a 48 hour strike, Grahame Smith, STUC General Secretary said:
“The STUC offers its full support to the striking workers. It is hugely worrying that Network Rail’s signalling staff in Scotland have felt compelled to take industrial action on issues that have been resolved in every other region of the UK. This suggests that the role of Network Rail’s Scottish management has been less than constructive. Network Rail should quickly reconsider its responsibilities to the travelling public and enter in meaningful negotiation now.
“The misreporting of the issues leading to the strike in some sections of the Scottish media is unacceptable. Instead of apportioning blame in a nakedly partisan fashion, the Scottish media should seek to introduce balance into the reporting of this important matter”.
