STUC WELCOMES PUBLICATION OF THE NATIONAL TRANSPORT STRATEGY
Commenting on publication of the Scottish Executive's National Transport Strategy, Stephen Boyd, STUC Assistant Secretary, said:
"The STUC welcomes the publication of this important Strategy and agrees with the outcomes identified. The commitments to curb emissions, expand capacity on the rail network and strengthen Quality Bus Partnerships are particularly positive although it is a somewhat strange time to announce a review of ferry services.
"However, the STUC is surprised and extremely disappointed that the strategy does not recognise trade unions as a key partner. Transport users, the private sector, the third sector and other public sector bodies are all mentioned as key partners but the essential role played by those who actually deliver the services is completely overlooked".
