Speaking prior to the debate on the Planning (Scotland) Bill, Grahame Smith, STUC Deputy General Secretary said:
“An effective, efficient and well-resourced planning system is crucial to sustainable economic development in Scotland.
“Therefore, we are urging all MSPs to support the Scottish Executive’s Planning Bill which we believe has the potential to help achieve the economic, social and environmental objectives to which our members aspire.
“However, the Bill places significant new demands on planning authorities. Significant extra resources will be required to ensure the new system works effectively and efficiently”.
