Commenting on the publication of the Work Foundation’s 2006 Competitiveness Index Stephen Boyd, STUC Assistant Secretary said:
“The Work Foundation’s Competitiveness Index shows that Scotland’s performance is improving against other regions of the UK. The Index is particularly welcome in providing a measure of competitiveness that includes outputs and outcome factors as well as inputs.
“There is of course no room for complacency and closing the productivity gap with our neighbours in Northern and Western Europe must remain the priority. This will only be achieved by concentrating on building up the skills of the workforce, the expertise of our managers and our investment in people, plant and research”.
